The car almost makes it to Tresco

The car almost makes it to Tresco!

Living on a small island in the Atlantic has it's pros - no crime, no pollution, incredible scenery and a fantastic way of life. So many mainland problems don't effect islanders at all. But on the flip side, living here also has it's cons - problems that a mainlander would never think of!

Our car, having been bought a few weeks ago by James & Will, had been sat at Lands End, waiting for a space on the boat to be transported to Tresco. Anything that an islander needs, from internet shopping to a fortnightly Tesco order, has to come on the boat. Once here, we could then begin the arduous task of preparing it for the 10,000 miles to Mongolia. We had great news on Monday, that a space was booked in, and we should receive ownership on the Tuesday!

The car was loaded onto the freight ship, Gry Maritha (pic below), and it set off from Penzance towards the Isles of Scilly.

But, as luck would have it, a newly installed engine on the Gry Maritha packed in shortly after leaving Penzance, leaving them to turn around and limp home with only 1 working engine. Car and all...

So, we now wait for news on a repair timetable, and are hoping that we can get the Saxo here before June!
