100 days to go!
100 days to go!
How time does fly. When Drucey & Mackey first applied for a coveted place on the Mongol Rally, it was 300 days away. Before we know it, we've got just 100 days left until we leave the island of Tresco, and begin our 10,000 mile journey across Europe & Asia. That's two thirds of our time... gone. 66% of our potential planning and preparation possibilities presently in the past.
So, where are we at the moment?
- The Car - it's here, on Tresco!
- Sponsors - we've begun to gather fantastic sponsors already, including British International Helicopters, Isles of Scilly Steamship Company and Skinner's Brewery..
- Donations - they've started! You can donate online, or get in contact with us. Huge thanks to those that have started the ball rolling, and to those who have donated on Tresco.
- Visas - all bought and paid for. Now the agonizing wait to discover whether we're decent enough folk to be given entry into the 'Stans.
- Events - we've had our first fundraising event, the Mobile Feast, and are now planning others - including Mongol Hog Roast, Mongol Rally DVD night, live music Mongol night & Tresco raft race
- Naming the Car - rather than choose our own rubbish name - we've decided to open up this monumental decision to the masses. Starting this week at the New Inn, Tresco - have a go at naming our Saxo!
- Car Preparation - a standard, used Citroen Saxo stands little chance of making it to Mongolia. Our fantastic local engineer, Nick Shiles, has taken on the task and currently preparing sump guards, upgraded suspension, roof rails and roof box, spare wheels, improved air filters etc.. Soon it will look like a real rally car, thanks to stickers from Sign & Print.
- Clothing - having now sourced an official Scilly Mission clothing supplier, it's now just a case of deciding the design!
- Publicity - Lyn from the West Briton was fantastic and gave us a full page article, and Radio Scilly have started to promote our cause (interviews with Keri the presenter in the next few days). Much more to follow...
We've still got a huge, huge amount to do - but lucky enough to have incredible supporters that are taking some of the load off (apart from Jo Ash - she's awesome and taking the majority of the load off!).
