Triathlon day!
Triathlon day!
I think i've always taken for granted the luxury of time; if it can be done tomorrow, i'd probably do it the day after. When myself and Pete first discussed the possibility of having a Tresco Triathlon (well, he was the excited one, and I just volunteered to co-ordinate so he couldn't pull the mate-card on me and join him in the punishing test), we had ample time to plan; ample time to prepare; and more than ample time to sit back and do the jobs on a slow schedule of comfort.
As it turns out, we find ourself on the morning of the Triathlon with still a long list of jobs to do!
The start is at 3pm, from the beach at New Grimsby; if you are on the islands, please do come and watch. The finish is at the New Inn, where we have live music from BackChat, a beef kebab roast, medals and trophy, and also the world cup final.
Looking out of the window, it doesn't look to be a bad day for it. Certainly not perfect, but most definitely not as bad as some previous marathon conditions the fearless have run in. I'm hoping that the sea has died down from last night, having spent a good few hours in a fury of white horses and spray; we want all competitors to manage the first sector!!!
Other than the things we haven't yet done, the things we have already done are quite impressive - you've got sea rescue from a number of HM Coastguards and a beach rescue swimmer; medical services from the South West Ambulance Service and the Tresco Community Responders; and an army of willing helpers, without which this little inaugural fund-raising event just couldn't go on.
I'll save the big list of thanks to after; in the meantime, I have a terrible chest infection, and still a list of tasks to do as long as Pete's enthusiasm.
Full Tresco Triathlon results will be listed this afternoon, along with photos; Video footage will be released on the final Scilly Mission DVD in September.
