6 days, terrorists & religious extremists..
The Tresco Triathlon has come and gone - a huge success, and it put us on a high. With the planning for that event now done with, we could focus ourselves on our last few things to do - namely pack the car. James found car insurance this morning (after he forgot - it's not a second nature thing on an island without cars!) for a reasonable price, considering: a) James and Will have just passed their tests b) Will is only 20. But, it's done and paid for, so that's good news.
The car is booked on the Scillonian (thanks to the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company), and we'll be leaving the safety of Scilly on Tuesday 20th. All in all - we're optimistic and in very good spirits!
Or should I say, we were.
A kind comrade in the rally shared around an intel report that might affect us rather a lot. Following on from the clashes occuring in Kyrgyzstan with the Uzbekistan refugees, it seems that they want revenge. Not just that, but they're calling for back up. I won't bore you with the full text, but let's just give you some interesting snippets:
... serious armed clashes with participation of militants of religious and extremist organizations will start
These people travel light because weapons have already been prepared and hidden on the territory of Kyrgyzstan.
At the same time, from the direction of Afghanistan small groups of well-trained terrorists are arriving in the Ferghana Valley, who will act as some shock mass and will participate in targeted cruel actions.
... militant actions will be taken in several directions: Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan
... moving from Afghanistan to the territory of the Ferghana Valley, who are responsible for implementing specific tasks (participation in battles, organization of terrorist acts, etc.)
... have departed for Tajikistan exclaiming “Jihad!”
... “pull out” people of appropriate nationalities from among the people attracted into groups of future conflict contingent (“you will be turned into cannon meat”).
This throws the proverbial spanner into our works. Hell, it throws the entire bloody tool kit into our already revving engine. We will of course be keeping a very close eye on the happenings of this - not just for us (we're not entirely selfish!) but also the millions that could be affected by this. The previous fighting in Kyrgyzstan has already been deemed a "humanitarian crisis", with over 200,000 affected. If this fighting goes ahead, it plans to make the former pale into comparison....
