We have calculated that by undertaking the Mongol Rally, The Islanders will be responsible for

9.6 TONS

of carbon! This is comprised of the three Islanders:

• travelling from the Isles of Scilly to the mainland
• driving 10,000 miles from the UK to Mongolia
• flying home to the UK
• travelling back to the Isles of Scilly from the mainland.

To offset this large amount of carbon, The Islanders will be planting 20 trees on the island of Tresco.

A typical evergreen tree can expect to absorb around 900-1100kg of carbon over its lifetime - by planting 20 trees, we not only offset the carbon produced by the challenge, but also much faster (nearing the end of the tree's lifetime, we will be infact carbon negative!)
